Yardley Wood celebrates 70 years 'On the buses'

Yardley Wood residents will celebrate 70 years 'on the buses’ next month as the Yardley Wood bus garage celebrates its 70th anniversary.

The National Express West Midlands garage first opened in November 1938 and currently employs over 450 people from the area. The garage is celebrating its platinum jubilee with an appeal for items of memorabilia to be returned for a public exhibition on Saturday 29 November.

Area Manager Michael Fox commented: "Yardley Wood bus garage has been central to the community since it opened in 1938 and we are appealing for items from our 70 year history to be returned for a special public exhibition on Saturday 29 November.

"We’d like to invite past employees and their families to get in touch with old photographs, posters and uniforms which we’ll display at the garage for local residents and members of the public. It’s an opportunity for staff to get together and share their stories and for the public to look around the historic building, which has stood on Yardley Wood Road for seven decades."

The public exhibition will include vintage vehicles, uniforms and signs from the garage’s history and will take place at Yardley Wood garage between 10am and 2pm. There will also be a bouncy castle, face painting and clown on site for children and all money raised from the day will be donated to Fox Hollies Special Needs School, who are fundraising for a mini bus.

If you, or a member of your family, worked at Yardley Wood bus garage and have an item from the garage’s history, let National Express know on 0121 254 6403
